Is SAND: Raiders of Sophie Worth It?
Last reviewed: June 27, 2026 · Early Access impressions
Short verdict: If you like PvPvE extraction games and the fantasy of building and piloting a giant walking mech fortress, SAND: Raiders of Sophie is worth buying now — especially at the 21% launch discount. If you want a polished, content-complete game or rock-solid servers, wishlist and wait: it's early, and full 1.0 isn't expected until around mid-2027.

What's genuinely great
- The Trampler is a brilliant hook. A walking fortress that's simultaneously your mobile base and your main weapon is a fresh spin on extraction. Targeting an enemy's reactor to disable their ship makes vehicle combat tactical, not just bigger-gun-wins.
- Strong build-raid-extract tension. The core loop — gear up, raid for loot, and try to extract before a rival crew wipes you — delivers the high-stakes feeling extraction fans want.
- Striking setting. The 1910 dieselpunk wasteland on a dried-up seabed stands out from the usual sci-fi or military backdrops.
- Fair entry price. Mid-range Early Access pricing with a launch discount, and content is being added free during EA.
What's rough (it's Early Access)
- The server launch was bumpy. A pre-release stress test overwhelmed the backend, pushing the date from June 10 to June 22, and peak-time instability can still happen. See our server status guide.
- Systems are still being built. Weapons, Trampler compartments, islands and crafting are openly listed as work-in-progress — expect gaps and changes.
- The meta is unsettled. Balance and the "best" loadouts will shift patch to patch (our tier list reflects that).
- PC-only for now. Console players have to wait — see PS5 and Xbox.
